That “remind-me” song

Do you have a remind-me song, a song that immediately evokes memories, painful or otherwise, of a past relationship?

Here’s a lyric about that experience. If it tugs at your heartstrings, set it to music, it should make a good song for someone.

That Remind-me Song
©2021 John Schofield

Verse 1
That “remind-me” song was playing
On the juke box in the bar
And on my way to work today
On the radio in the car

Verse 2
Reminds me how you wounded me
And it sure brings back the pain
But I can’t seem to let it go
I keep playing it again

Chorus:
I always press that number on the jukebox in the bar
And I play it on the tape deck when I’m driving in my car
It takes me back to sunny times we had before the rain
When I’m playing that “remind-me” song, when I’m playing it again

Verse 3
I must stop picking at the wound
So that this poor heart can heal
I don’t know why it’s so damn hard
Moving on from how I feel

Chorus:
I always press that number on the jukebox in the bar
And I play it on the tape deck when I’m driving in my car
It takes me back to sunny times we had before the rain
When I’m playing that “remind-me” song, when I’m playing it again

Verse 4 (Outro)
And I always press that button
On the jukebox in the bar
And that “remind-me” song still plays
On the radio in the car

. Chorus:
I always press that number on the jukebox in the bar
And I play it on the tape deck when I’m driving in my car
It takes me back to sunny times we had before the rain
When I’m playing that “remind-me” song, when I’m playing it again

Oh yes, I think we all have at least one of those “remind-me” songs. Great lyrics once again… and, yes, they definitely tug at my heartstrings.
